This online memorial was created in loving memory of Lakyn Danielle Rodgers, whose life touched all who knew her in ways that we will cherish forever. Lakyn was born September 2nd,1992 and died on her 13th birthday in 2005. She was taken off life support the next day on September 3rd. Lakyn had not been sick, but got up on Thursday morning with a headache so her Mom took her to her doctor at 11:30 that day. Her doctor did a cat scan which showed a brain tumor. She was sent immediately to Childrens Hospital. They decided to wait until morning to do surgery. Her Paw Paw, myself, Aunt Julie and Aunt Erin left her that night at 10:30 talking on the phone with her best friend, Megan, and eating shrimp from Captain D's. Her Mom and Dad were with her. She went to sleep and woke up at 1:00AM with a horrible headache that would not ease. The nurse gave her some medication for the pain, but within 15 minutes, Lakyn closed her eyes and never woke up again. This was on her 13th birthday September 2nd, 2005. She was put on life support although there was no brain activity so life support was taken off the next day. |

We never got to say good-bye or tell her all the things we wanted to say so I pray that this will be a way for all of us to tell her how much we LOVE and MISS her!!! She was taken from us so quickly, but she will NEVER be gone from our hearts.... Lakyn loved all of her family and friends so much and she showed it in so many ways. We did not have her but 13 years to the day but our lives will forever be grateful for all the love she gave to us.

"Our Angel"
Lakyn was born September 2nd, l992 at Andalusia Hospital weighing 7lbs. 2oz. She had a head full of beautiful dark brown hair. The nurse had to cut it a little to keep it out of her eyes. She was Christy's sucker baby because she was such an easy infant. Christy could go and do anything because Lakyn slept much of the time. This picture was taken when she was 4 weeks old. The little curl on the top of her head was there because I started curling her hair with a baby doll roller only later to really regret!!
This poem was written by Lakyn's Aunt Erin who was only 12 years old at the time. Lakyn was the 1st grandchild and niece. She was already a part of our hearts before she graced our lives with her beautiful soul.

Lakyn
You are already loved
although you are not here,
Still in your mommy's tummy
you don't have a fear.
So quiet and so little
and helpless as can be,
Dependent on your mommy
and maybe even me.
You will be so tiny, little and sweet,
and have little toes on your tiny baby feet.
I love you so much already right now,
I couldn't love you more,
and if I could, I don't know how.
In about five weeks
in this world you will be,
Having such little eyes
that a blur is all you will see.
You are not even here
and we all love you so,
And I hope that is something
you will always, always know.
Love,Aunt Erin 8/2/92

"Love This Face"
Lakyn was filled with personality. This is one of our most favorite pictures. She was so happy this day with her mom and dad taking pictures until they decided to take one of her by herself. This is what she thought of that!!!! She was already the center of all our lives. We found love that we never knew was possible. Lakyn was and still is the center of all our lives. We will forever be changed for having her!! |

"Dog... The Rabbit"
This is a picture of her and her bunny on her second Easter. She wanted a dog so badly, but her Mom and Dad thought she was too little so her Paw Paw and I got her a bunny. She named him "DOG". Ironically, her future real dog ate "DOG"! |
| |
"Big Sister"
Three years and five days later Lakyn became a Big Sister to Jessica (Jessie). She loved babies with all her heart. Later, she became the oldest of four cousins. She loved everyone of them as if they were the only one!!!!! |
| |
"Paw Paw's Heart"
Lakyn, is the apple of her Paw Paw's eye. She loved scuplins so when they were in season he fed them to her constantly. It was a miracle they did not make her really sick. She would eat that many.... |
| |
"Waiting For Ashley"
This is a picture of Lakyn and Jessie with her Aunt Julie. Julie is expecting Lakyn's first cousin, Ashley. She was so happy that there was going to be a little baby in our family. The joy on her face is how she felt from the first cousin to the fourth! Her love for them always brought a smile to her face... |
| |
"Loved Animals"
Lakyn not only loved her family but also loved animals. All of her pets were just left at their door and soon were part of their faimly. Her Mom has always said that they didn't choose their pets, their pets chose them. |

"Favorite Place To Be"
This was one of Lakyn's favorite spots, in her mothers lap. This was on Christmas Eve, 2004 at our (her Nana's and Paw Paw"s) house. She loved everything about Christmas!! She was all about erveyone being together. We added a big dining room to our home in 2003 becaue SHE wanted a room where all 13 plus of us could eat at ONE time!! She said that she wanted us be like "The Walton's" and have everyone eating together at once. Her love for not only her immediate family but extended family was just remarkable. The first time we ate in the new dining room (which was not even completely finished) was on Christmas Eve 2003. She came the night before to help me set it up so EVERYONE could have lunch at once--Her love for togetherness was one of the things that always touched my heart! |

"Always Joking"
Lakyn, with her Aunt Erin at Erin's baby shower for her 4th cousin Aubree. She couldn't wait!!! She got out of the bed at 1:30 in the morning to make the trip to Georgia for Aubree to be born. Her Mom did not have to call her twice. She bounced out of bed and was ready to go and she was sooooo excited! |

"One of Lakyn's best friends is Megan Hudson. They were always together, even durning the week nights.Megan and Lakyn decided one day to combind their last names to "Hudgers". Part of Megan's last name and the last part of Rodgers. They then became the Hudger sisters. Megan and Amanda were more than friends to Lakyn. They were and will always be a part of our family.
Lakyn and Amanda were also Best Friends.. Amanda lived next door and although they went to different schools, they were inseparable!! They loved each other and was always there for the other!!! Lakyn loved to ride the 4-wheeler so most of the time that is where you would always find them when they were at home.(Most likely without helmets)

Never A Doubt"
This song was Lakyn's favorite. "Who Am I" by Casting Crown. She knew who she was. This song says it all to me. She is His! and she knew it with out a doubt! We never wondered where her heart was. Everyone who knew Lakyn knew her love for Jesus. She always stood up for what she believed, but never judged those who didn't agree with her. Even though we know where she is, we still miss her more than words will ever be able to say, but we know that we will see her again one day and until then...
We will always celebrate her "LIFE"! |

Lakyn
I see you in my dreams,
as the angel that you are.
And even though you're not here with me,
I still feel you close in my heart.
I wonder why this happened,
Why did you have to leave?
I still want you here to hold.
I still want you here with me.
But I guess God needed you
to be an angel up above.
He knew you could never be gone from us,
because you left us with so much love.
One day we will meet again,
and what a joyous day.
When I can hold you in my arms
and touch your precious face.
Until then you will be close,
as I recall each memory.
And every time I close my eyes,
it's your smiling face that I will see.
I Love You, Aunt Erin 9/30/05
